Fire damages Harper's Ferry Bridge on B&O line

A fire on a Baltimore & Ohio coal train helper damaged the Harper's Ferry bridge over the Potomac River. Three journal boxes overheated and set wooden ties ablaze, derailing one car of 125 and halting traffic for about 12 hours. Crews saved nine cars, restored limited service via an old bridge, and firemen fought the blaze for six hours. The incident follows a separate fatal wreck near Parkersburg two weeks earlier involving a locomotive and a boulder.
