Following the wedding ceremony, the Helvetians gave a party for the couple, replete with native dances and songs. Helvetia about 40 miles from Elkins is composed mostly of Swiss immigrants and their descendants.

U S authorities were ordered to show cause why Army Specialist 3c William S Girard cannot be returned to the United States for trial. The 21 year old from Ottawa Ohio faces charges of killing a Japanese woman scavenging on a firing range in Japan.
