Cloudy skies with showers and thunderstorms likely today and tonight. Temperatures reach the 80s in the west and upper 70s to low 80s in the east. West Virginia readings show high 79 and low 54 for 24 hours ending 5 pm Monday with 11 am today at 78.
Entries for the 1957 Taylor County Fair Queen contest close Monday June 10. Contestants will gain votes based on subscription length while funds support the fair association. Contestants must be Taylor County residents with the end of the contest set for noon August 5 and winners announced August 6 in The Sentinel.

Grafton held a two-seat council election with nine candidates. Polls opened 6:30 am and closed 7:30 pm with morning reports noting light voting across most precincts. Expect final results late evening as workers vote after day jobs. 4,490 eligible in Grafton amid statewide 154 towns.
Four year old Dayton Reed of 308 Walnut Street was hit on Walnut Street Sunday by Henry D. Shababarger of 461 Swalnut Street. He was not seriously hurt, received treatment at Grafton City Hospital, and was released shortly after admission. He was briefly examined Monday morning.
The Weather Bureau reports todays low of 26 degrees at Fraser Colorado and Mondays high reaching 113 degrees across Needles Blythe Thermal California and Yuma Arizona.
State Road Commissioner Pat C. Graney has named Col. George E. White Jr of Charleston as administrative assistant. White, 44, is a West Virginia native and a Harvard trained civil engineer who previously served as district engineer in St Louis and held several Washington posts. He succeeds Vincent J. Johnkoski who resigned last January.
West Union authorities continued an investigation into the death by self destruction of 14 year old Kendra Louise Highland. The body was found hanging in the bathroom by Mrs. Ophia Duckworth on the second floor. Acting Coroner D. J. Cunningham ruled it a suicide. The father, Kenneth Highland, offered no reason. Mrs. Duckworth said Kendra had been babysitting the younger brother, whose crying prompted the discovery after a doorway was found ajar. Police theorize a chair was kicked away as the body dropped.
Dave Beck Jr, a near replica of his father, refused to answer questions from the Senate Labor Rackets Committee about ties to the Teamsters Union and the alleged misuses of union funds. He invoked the Fifth Amendment to avoid incriminating himself and declined to disclose salary or other dealings, while other witnesses connected to Beck and the union faced subpoenas and questions about millions channeled through union investments and a Budweiser distributorship.
Washington district reports that President Eisenhower's son Maj John Eisenhower has been assigned temporarily as a White House staff officer under his father's direction. He previously served at Fort Belvoir Virginia and was ordered to a new Pentagon assignment with a July 20 reporting date.
The United States agreed to let Japan try Army Specialist 3rd Class Williams Girard for the slaying of a Japanese woman at Camp Weir. Secretary Dulles and Secretary Wilson announced the decision in a joint statement, noting a May 16 agreement that the U S would not exercise jurisdiction. The case sparked U S Japanese controversy as Pentagon officials debated whether to deliver the GI for trial. The action follows Eisenhower orders to review the case and seek a solution with Japan.
Two state Board of Control members Daniel Louchery and Edward Greene said they were very much impressed with Spencer State Hospital after a surprise visit. They praised Supt. I C West for an excellent job and noted the physical condition cleanliness and atmosphere as very good compared with other state hospitals.
