Denham Defends UMW Case In Coal Labor Dispute
National Labor Board official Denham filed an answer to the United Mine Workers motion to dismiss the case. He accuses UMW and Lewis of unfair labor practice for refusing to meet with the Southern coal producers association. Judge Goldsborough questioned the union’s stance and upbraided its arguments linking Taft Hartley to the case, asserting the SCPA officials are competent negotiators and that employers may designate any bargaining agent in good faith. Moody, president of the Southern Association, sat watching as tensions over contract talks persisted.
