In Nurnberg Germany on February 19 Field Marshal Wilhelm List was sentenced to life imprisonment after a war crimes trial in which seven Nazi generals were convicted and others acquitted. The tribunal said German armies killed hostages by the hundreds and noted orders to slaughter hostages exceeded military law.
Taylor County Board of Trade members met last night to discuss locating a new factory in Graf ton. Charles N Prickitt credited John I Booth and the West Virginia Employment Service for aiding the labor survey, which estimates 1,622 workers available, including 1,380 city residents and 242 others. PORTSMOUTH Ohio February 19 The purchaser won the first Ohio case involving a non resale clause in an automobile purchase contract A common pleas court deliberated 10 minutes yesterday before finding for Dean Slavens charged by Watkins Motor Co of selling a car to Bruce Stapleton Ashland Ky dealer after having signed an agreement to keep the car for six months The motor company asked 606 damages alleging Slavens sold the car for 2590 after purchasing it for 1923 He had signed an agreement not to sell the car for six months without first offering it to the Watkins company the suit alleged
Grafton city officials heard from City Manager Curtis D. Decker that property assessments are too low and that raising assessments is essential for improved finances. He noted some properties fetch up to three times their assessed value and sought Taylor County Board of Trade support for higher assessment values in 1948.

Oakland Calif Feb 19 The freighter Thomas E Mitchell operated by the Prudential Steamship Co of New York arrived after five and a half months at Oakland from New York. Reports say the crew fought on deck and discontent ran high with sacks of stale food and poor water. Federal agents found marijuana and filth in storerooms. The ship had run from Venice via Sardinia to Japan with little food and two days water, then sailed ballast to Oakland.
A Senate probe into Democratic vote fraud in President Truman's Missouri stamping ground centers on a Missouri primary in 1946. Developments include a judiciary subcommittee to question the FBI official now up for a federal judgeship, and a look at how the Justice Department handled irregularities in Kansas City precincts. Indictments totaled 72 with 66 freed. 28 ballots held as evidence were stolen, leaving six awaiting trial.
Locke is found not guilty at a Tuesday hearing after the state recommends insufficient evidence to bind him to the grand jury. Decker said urgent repairs might be needed before a lumber order arrives, leaving closure as the only alternative. The city bears all bridge repair costs currently.

A seven man special committee will investigate after charges of stool pigeons and unfair information surfaced.
