In Headingly provincial jail three men, Peter Korzenowski 29 Den Prytuls 52 and William Ka nuke 41 were hanged for the slaying of 81 year old Mrs Anna Cottrick and injuring her husband Elke 91 in a May 1938 break in. The trio were convicted at Dauphin Manitoba and the executions mark the first triple hanging in the province. The intruders sought to seize $1000 they believed was hidden in the farm house.

Charleston February 16 The Senate Judiciary committee favored a group of bills creating a West Virginia probation department and allowing probation to first offenders. The bills, already passed by the house, would appoint a director of probation permit indeterminate sentences and permit probation for some offenders. The committee also backed garnishment of wages up to 20 percent for private and public employees with a five day notice of judgment kept in the bill. Governor Holt plans to push the measures and a $62 million budget bill to the floor soon.
