Mutinous Dutch crew seized the cruiser De Zeven Provincien off Sumatra after overpowering officers and sailing for Java. The mutineers reported they would deliver the ship to naval authorities as a pursuit by the main East Indies squadron closed in. The vessel, built in 1909, carries Krupp guns and heavy armament, complicating interception as the mutineers head toward safer waters.

White Plains New York February 6 Supreme Court Justice Joseph Morschauser issued a certificate of reasonable doubt in the case of Sydney Homewood convicted of seducing Charlotte Gibson under promise of marriage. Homewood was fined 500 dollars and sentenced from one year and a half to three years in prison. The judge ordered release on fifteen thousand dollars bail while a motion for a new trial is argued.
Washington reports veteran senate sergeant at arms David S. Barry cited members of Congress to the senate judiciary committee to support his claim that some senators and representatives take bribes. The committee postponed action but will resume tomorrow. Barry read a prepared statement noting a suggestion by Senator Glass that bankers hired some congressmen to oppose banking legislation. He said the article aimed to expose Congress as corrupt but acknowledged a fair inference of influence.

Clark 35, with 10 years service and 23 bravery citations, was arrested after a suicide attempt with a knife. Prosecutor Harry F. Kelly planned to seek a murder warrant after determining the degree of charges.
Charleston Feb 6 The House voted unanimously to approve a constitutional amendment to shift inauguration from March 4 to January. The measure advances to the Senate with 86 delegates for and six absent and no debate. The governor and other elective officers would take office the first Monday after the second Wednesday in January. Also West Virginia officials plan hearings as Public Service Commission Chairman I Wade Coffman to testify tonight before the house utilities investigation committee.
Chicago police questioned Albert Russell Erskine Jr., son of the Studebaker president, in the death of Vera Hayburn who leaped or fell from the Medinah Athletic Club on the Loop fringe. Hayburn’s body was found on a 25th floor ledge, with investigators saying she likely fell from a corridor window after being with Erskine and others at a nightclub.
Governor Ruby Laffoon urges the federal government to lend money through the Reconstruction Finance Corporation to landowners for payment of taxes and past due real estate taxes and mortgage interest.
