Attempted assassination falters as Mexico's Rubio is wounded

Mexico City February 6 Pascual Ortiz Rubio the new president was shot in the cheek and jaw but is reported resting at home. The assassin Daniel Flores age 22 of Charcos San Luis Potosi was seized after officers overpowered him. Seven others were wounded including the president's chauffeur and his young niece Maria Rosh. The attack followed his first cabinet meeting as Flores claimed Vasconcelos influence though the government suspects a Vasconcelista plot. President Hoover condemned the act as cowardly and expressed relief at Rubio's safety.

Taft Regains Slight Strength as Senate Mourns Illness

Eureka Utah February 6 A searching party gathered to comb hills 17 miles southwest for Maurice Graham Western Air Express pilot missing since January 11 after miners reported an unusual fire in the mountains near their camp the morning after he disappeared en route from Las Vegas Nevada to Salt Lake City.
