President Hoover confirmed the sentence of dismissal from the navy for Lieutenant Harold W. Northcutt charged with desertion and other offenses damaging morale. The Annapolis graduate disappeared October 22 from Norfolk and was later found in Vancouver with a nurse before surrendering at Puget Sound. The court martial findings awaited the president’s approval dated February.

In Marion Arkansas hundreds remarried after county clerk Carter advised that licenses issued by Justice A L Newman were void. The state comptroller reported Newman issued licenses for 11 months without authority, and Carter said remarries followed in all known cases.
