Trend Against Socialized Power in Municipal Utilities
An article in Barron's by Ernest R. Abrams notes a rise in votes against municipal ownership of electric utilities from 1923 to 1939, with 61.5 percent approval, then a sharp reversal from 1940 to 1945 as only 18.8 percent voted Yes. Abrams cites PWA funding, totaling roughly 196 million dollars, boosting nonFederal bodies for public power during that period before wartime costs shifted federal support.

Truman Angrily Replies To Music Critic Over Daughter’s Voice
White House reports say President Truman vented anger after Paul Hume’s harsh review of Margaret Truman’s singing, then showed remorse and sought to curb future vitriolic letters. Labor circles anticipate a Washington labor management parley to discuss stabilization, price controls, no strike pledge, and dispute machinery to protect defense production. The talks may delegate labor dispute handling to the Wage Stabilization Board, though authority under the defense act remains unclear. A separate military note notes the 3.5 inch bazooka may aid Chinese and Soviet forces in Korea, while earlier models performed poorly against Russian tanks, highlighting evolving wartime logistics and weapon dynamics.
