Cloudy with occasional rain tonight and colder temperatures. North and central areas 25 to 30 degrees, extreme south 28 to 32. Tuesday brings snow flurries and further cooling. 24 hour temperatures end Sunday 37 to 62, today 7 a.m. 30 and 11 a.m. 44. Tygart Dam expected 50 high, 35 low, today 44 at 11 a.m.
West Virginia reports eight fatalities over the weekend as the Red Cross appeals nationally for Hungarian refugees. Local chapter chairman Rev Mart y T Rowe urges contributions to support meals, blankets, and medical supplies for refugees in Hungary Austria and Camp Kilmer New Jersey.
Four injured, two seriously, after a fog shrouded head on collision east of the flood wall on Route 52. 47 year old Freeland border resident from Huntington died in the crash as a Route 52 truck driven by Sammy Bell, 32, of Huntington struck the wreckage shortly after.
John H. Fullen faced a preliminary hearing on charges he fatally wounded his brother in law Charles Carlisle during an argument over a television set at their home near here Saturday night. Carlisle, 65, lived in the same residence with Fullen.
Grafton public school students prepare a Christmas pageant directed by Ruth Batten and Mildred Haddix for December 20 at 2 15 pm. Annalee Corder narrates with the sophomore class acting as angels shepherds and wise men. The mixed chorus led by Naomi Lawson will sing. Santa and sleigh lights adorn the school lawn.

Saint Augustine school presents its annual Christmas play at 8 pm in the school auditorium on Wednesday December 19. High and Junior High students perform the Nativity Pageant in two acts with carols, followed by a lit tle playlet A Christmas Surprise featuring the third to fifth graders. The Littlest of the Little from first and second grade perform A Little King s Birthday while the directors extend a cordial welcome to all attendees.
W E Flannery of Man Logan County won a fifth term as House Speaker defeating J Horner Davis of Charleston 36 22 backed by labor unions while Davis led conservative Democrats. Senate president Ralph I Bean sought a third term. GOP chose John Corrigan as minority leader in the Senate and George H Seibert Jr. in the House. Partial results noted before page four.
Charleston Kanawha County common pleas court rules a child's television lacks educational value. Judge Staige Davis directs remaining civil funds from a 1.4 million damage award to be invested until age 16 for schooling. Separately, saboteurs blamed for a Cuban railroad wreck kill 19 and injure 21 as West Virginia and Latrobe police raid two US Route 50 area venues for liquor resale probes.
Guest minister at the First Church of Christ, Dr. Aaron H. Rapking, delivered a sermon on What Christmas Means To Me. A retired professor and longtime writer on religion, he is known to Grafton readers and spoke of shared human traits mirroring nature and divine kinship. Continued on page five.
President Eisenhower and Indian Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru arrived at Eisenhower’s Gettysburg farm for informal talks on global issues. The nine car motorcade from Washington carried Secret Service, reporters, and photographers as they prepared to discuss Hungary, the Middle East, Red China, alliances, and decolonization. Indira Gandhi accompanied Nehru, and the pair aimed to ease tensions between the two largest democracies amid rising world concerns.
Vienna reports Russia says the Hungarian revolt has ended yet Budapest sources claim tanks troops and possibly planes clash with guerrillas in the Matra Mountain region north of Budapest. The Budapest government drafts workers for coal mines and says 654 returned to Matra mines while Hungarians seek Polish troops to replace the Russian occupiers.
United Nations General Assembly opens to discuss expanding the Security Council. France signals it will use the moment to protest Egypt’s expulsion of about 8,000 French nationals by Tuesday. Britain and Israel also lodge complaints through Dag Hammarskjold over their nationals.
Parkerburg authorities identify Emory Thomas 63, who drowned in a Little Kanawha River boat accident on November 5, 1954, along with his daughter Ruth Ann 17 and grandson James Miller 19. His body was found in the Ohio River about 30 miles south of Parkerburg.
