Drizzle today with highs in the 50s and lows in the 40s for the north. Sunday expected cloudy and warmer then colder by evening. 24 hour temperatures show Friday high 45 low 37, morning readings 38 at 11 am and 63 at some point. Tygart Dam yesterday high 43 low 41 and 11 am today 49 with rainfall 0.38 inches.
In an unsettled weather pattern, West Virginia saw streams recede after a brief flood spell. Grafton area reported springlike temperatures and traffic reopened on major routes while Roane and surrounding counties worked to mop up flood damage. Over 100 families evacuated Spencer as Spring Creek flooded. Local officials noted mild tonight with a forties low, and showers or thunderstorms possible Sunday.
President Eisenhower announced a $4 million U S contribution to the United Nations for Hungarian refugee aid. Funds from the $100 million emergency relief program will assist Austria facing strains from a growing refugee influx. Since November 13 the U N has already received $1 million for this purpose, with over 130000 Hungarians escaping to Austria.
A winter storm lashes the East with 12 inches of snow and freezing rain six states report delays and road hazards. Vatican says Pope Pius XI will hold a consistory to fill 10 cardinal vacancies when the world improves. Aimed at younger prel ates, the plan would raise the U S count to seven including Archbishops Richard J. Cushing and Francis P. Keough and auxiliary Bishop Fulton J Sheen. The current average cardinal age is 72.
Frank M. Hollis Jr heads the county effort as 1,500 envelopes were sent for the Christmas seal drive. Returns have been disappointing, though funds aid local and national tuberculosis fight. This is the 50th year of selling seals, Hollis notes he has led the drive since 1930, a 27 year span of service.
A four percent increase in railway express rates on most goods traveling in less than carload shipments goes into effect Monday. The Interstate Commerce Commission authorized the increase Friday. The rise applies to first and second class rates and commodity rates on goods other than milk and cream, newspapers and human remains.

Tanya Chwas to arrive with her mother Helena Diaczk at Idlewild after a Russia bound ship misstep. They plan a short New York visit and hope Tanya’s stepfather George Diaczok will join, with a big Christmas party planned.

David Falk of Madison turned a $5,060 gift from his father into an estimated $30,000 over four years at the University of Wisconsin. He bought a rooming house, built income from it, purchased land near Madison, and flipped properties for profit. The couple, married in January, plan to convert gains into a Virginia farm, with two years in the Army after graduation.
Secretary of State John Foster Dulles reported to President Eisenhower on efforts to reunite the Western alliance. He faced criticism from both sides as he weighed rumors that the United States might move troops from Germany in exchange for Soviet moves from Warsaw Pact nations, despite pledges to maintain armed forces in Germany per treaty obligations.
France called its Western European allies to a meeting at the United Nations to discuss alleged persecution and expulsion of British and French nationals from Egypt. The French delegation says 8,000 residents in Egypt have been ordered out by Tuesday as Britain and France plan troop withdrawals from the Suez Canal zone.
Bridgeport dedicated its Civic Center today with Gov-elect Cecil H. Underwood among guests. The center, donated by M. L. Benedum, includes a library, museum, auditorium, dining hall and other facilities. Benedum, a Pittsburgh philanthropist, also funded cemetery restoration and a new Methodist church in Harrison County.
