Through trains cut as utility examiner weighs evidence

Columbus reports an attorney examiner weighed testimony on discontinuing the last two through passenger trains in 27 towns across 10 counties between Wheeling West Virginia and Cincinnati. Other items include police arrests in Phoenix over a counterfeit plot, Russia rejecting a US trade offer, a fatal fire in Durant Oklahoma, and city politics in Cincinnati.

Man Listed As Buyer In Sale of Legion Home on McGraw Ave

Commander Gus Giankos announces Taylor County Post No 12 sells the American Legion Home on McGraw Avenue to Homer Winant Phillips for 12000. Winant will move in January 1 to run a rest home for elderly persons. Parrish Agency handled the deal. The Legion bought the property in February 1949 for 12000. The late William Beavers built the brick stone home. A Legion committee to locate a new post home includes Arthur Yates Woodrow Wilson and Dr Charles M Wella. Arnold Knotts named post service officer.

Washington reports the first coal gas turbine locomotive will be under construction by 1957 with test work imminent. Bituminous Coal Research Inc announced ongoing collaboration with eight years of railroads and industry partners. The turbine will burn powdered coal at high temperatures to produce gas and drive a turbine that generates electricity to propel the locomotive, potentially saving up to fifty thousand dollars annually.

Boat sinks Monster. crew of 11 rescued at sea

The Thetater vessel Monster sank in rough Atlantic waters on Wednesday night. One other ship rescued all 11 crew members from a pitching lifeboat, ending a perilous hourlong ordeal at sea.

Clarksburg Man Dies In Wreck In Route 20 crash near Buckhannon

Edward M. Ayers, 25, of Clarksburg, died in a hospital after an auto wreck on Route 20 while returning from National Guard training. Authorities say he lost control while passing another car. Two companions escaped major injury. In Huntington, a fire of undetermined origin destroyed Black's Roller Skating Rink at Camden Park, causing about 100000 dollars in damage.

Boy Slayer Shot in Gun Battle With Officers

A 17 year old boy John Falloner of Near Ford City Pa killed three adults and a 15 year old girl in a spree then wounded police chief Gus Zanos of Apollo and a girl, Gladys Small, before being captured after a daylight gun battle in Baker Hollow Armstrong County.
