Recruiting Office reopens in Grafton with plans for a December Tonight initiation at 8 p m by Grafton Lodge No 308 B P O Elks Nine new members will be received followed by a buffet luncheon Holiday dances planned for Christmas night and New Year’s Eve.
Armed forces personnel or those likely to be drafted are urged to visit the recruiting office on Mondays for guidance and processing as the draft date approaches.
The J C Penney Company board authorized a special payment equal to two weeks pay for full year 1948 full time associates and proportionate pay for part time staff and those with less than a year. Over 50,000 Penney associates nationwide will participate including 26 in Grafton store, non recurring and not a Christmas bonus.
