Forecast calls for cloudy conditions with cold air and possible snow flurries this afternoon and tonight. Highs range from 32 to 58 with overnight lows 18 to 25. Sunday remains cloudy and warmer with highs around 35 to 42. Temperature table notes 24 hours ending 5 pm Friday show a high of 33 and a low of 24, with 11 am today at 32.
There were 7 commitments to the Taylor County jail during November per Deputy R A Squires the chief jailer. Five were remanded on felony charges while twenty five faced misdemeanors. City police jailed 49 and eight carried over from October. Jail population totaled 78 for nineer and 433 man days. Radio messages numbered 228 received and transmitted by Taylor County dispatchers.
A century old hub for distributing mails faces route cuts. The Board of Trade, businessmen, and the public protest, while one route operates at 6 a.m. to Belington and Philippi and another to Moatsville, with Bikins returning late. An afternoon trip to Randolph County was cut yesterday. Local interests will press for a more favorable action.
Grafton Lodge No 308 of Elks will conduct its 61st annual memorial service tomorrow at 2 p.m. in the ballroom to honor eight members who died in the past year. Two U S Air Force jet bombers crashed on Friday night killing ten fliers aboard the B52 Stratofortress and injuring others. A second B47 Stratojet crash over Lake Superior left four men alive, all parachuting to safety, as a joint Canadian U S rescue effort sought the crew. Authorities identified three of the B52 victims and named the B47 crew from Barksdale AFB Louisiana.
A young mother Mae Mong 29 Pine Township and her sons Edward 9 and Timothy 7 were found dead on a snow covered rural road near an abandoned farm house a fourth child survived frostbite and was taken to Grove City Hospital. A note left by Mrs Mong hinted at an old strip mine location. Authorities reported no obvious marks of violence.
President Eisenhower announced the United States will offer asylum to 21,500 Hungarian refugees to show sympathy for victims of Soviet oppression. The plan doubles the previous quota and includes U S government support for transportation and aid to Austria. He asked Congress to allow permanent resettlement and directed defense plans with Austria and the Intergovernmental Committee on European Migration. About 6,500 of the refugees have already arrived. fewer than 1,000 have reached the U S so far.
