In Kanawha circuit court today Vaughan and mine owners argued there is no law barring a foreman from making fireboss inspection rounds. The dispute stems from a fire boss versus foreman duty contention, with the attorney general urging a separation of roles for safety officers. Page 5.
The Taylor County Board of Education plans a federal aided hot lunch program at Grafton Senior High for the coming school year. Nine county schools already operate it, with Hepzibah Elementary joining September 12. Frances Newton of the state department led conferences with Grafton cooks and principal M. L. Mackey. The plan covers a 25 cent plate lunch with milk, supported by an eight cent federal reimbursement plus surplus food commodities. The meal aims to provide one half to one whole day’s nutrition and includes milk meat or substitute, vegetables or fruit, and fruit or other items. The program is funded by an eight million dollar congress grant administered through the U S Department of Agriculture.

Pet animals should be kept from contact with stray animals. No local veterinarian in Taylor County. one in Clarksburg away, one in Fairmont. Anti rabies inoculation available. have a veterinarian examine any animal bitten. Consult your doctor for human exposure.
Federal mediators moved to avert a threatened strike on the Western division of Blue Ridge Bus lines. Representatives from the company and division 1063 AFL Amalgamated Street & Electric Railway Employees met with mediators to seek a new contract replacing the expired one. The walkout would halt service between Pittsburgh and Bridgville Washington New Kensington Indiana in Pennsylvania Clarksburg Wheeling Steubenville Ohio. The union seeks a 25 cent hourly raise and said the company offer was unsatisfactory.
Foreign diplomats faced expulsion as governments tire of handling China turmoil. French Ambassador Jacques Meyrier, dean of the Nanking corps, will depart on Marechal Joffre for Shanghai by mid October to repatriate nationals and staff. embassies and legations will shrink to consular sizes as transit allows.
Four choirs from Taylor county enter a 8:15 PM Friday choir contest with a $250 prize. Lloyd Sayre heads the event as Andrews Methodist Omar Thompson Baileytown and Warren Methodists compete. Other county choirs urged to enter before tomorrow amid extra contests and fairs activities.

The Taylor County Garden Club announced plants for sale at the Taylor County fair. Proceeds include goldstones and greenstone stone flower holders and potted tulips. An award of six blooming chrysanthemums will be given tomorrow. All flower exhibits must be entered by 11 a.m. tomorrow.
Charleston W V State School Superintendent W W Trent stated that funds totaling 262027 allocated by ISchool finance for Mingo county building and repair could not be diverted to construct a new graded school for Williamson. He affirmed the money would support work in districts already approved. West Williamson residents sought a new four room addition for grades one to six.
Two resignations have been received from Taylor county schools this fall. George Geldbaugh, Latin and journalism instructor at Grafton High School for two years, resigned to take a post at Suncrest Junior High Morgantown. Ruth Bailey, fifth grade teacher at First Ward, has moved to Fairmont. Frances Nucci of Morgantown.
The B P O Elks Grafton Lodge 308 will convene tonight at the lodge on Hasty Main street. Tonight’s meeting ends the summer monthly series and future gatherings will be weekly on Wednesdays at 8 p.m. Exalted Ruler Jack R Nuzum announced.
Maj. Gen. Bae Vaughan told senators the FBI found the bribery charge groundless and he acknowledged a Democratic campaign contribution last fall from a lawyer who sought his aid for a pardon. He named the lawyer as William H. Neblett, a partner of the late Sen. McAdoo, and said the liquor black marketeer involved was Robert Gould.
London reports that the United States and Britain may ease restrictions on selling military equipment to Yugoslavia. Diplomats expect a decision when Ernest Bevin meets Dean Acheson in Washington. Officials say quietly aiding Marshal Tito could back his feud with Russia as Western powers consider shipments of armaments.
Charred frameworks and burnt lumber marked the remains of a full city block in Bellaire as a $300,000 blaze raged two hours after nightfall. About 120 firefighters from ten Ohio and West Virginia communities battled the flames, seen across the Ohio River in Wheeling and Moundsville. Magistrate Hal Mason estimated the loss and said the cause, likely starting in a lumber office, remained unknown.
Soviet pilot Anatole Barsov who deserted to stay in the United States returned today to the Red Army at the Linz Urfahr border zone. American authorities handed him to Russian officers after a brief ceremony on the bridge linking Linz in the American zone with Urfahr in the Russian zone. Barsov, who left October, again sought repatriation to the Soviet Union, and his navigator Piotr Pirogov accompanied him before the transfer following state department instructions.
Secretary of State Acheson denounced Russia for holding two American students in Eastern Germany as outrageous and improper. He said the youths wandered into the Russian zone illegally but posed no harm and should be released promptly. The missing students are Peter Seilers, 18, of Radnor, Pennsylvania, and Warren Oelsner, 21, of Oyster Bay, New York.
West Virginia reports 198 infantile paralysis cases through August 27, up from 68 in the prior year. The week ended August 27 added 18 new cases with Raleigh once leading local counts and multiple counties statewide showing new infections.
