Eighteen silk bags bearing five nations colors will launch Labor Day from Cleveland for the 49th International Gordon Bennett balloon race. Pilots include defending champion Ward T. Hunt Slayer of Child in South Bend Active Suspect at Large

South Bend Indiana authorities pursue a kidnapper who enticed eight year old Marveline Appel into a car last Wednesday evening. He held her for about 30 hours before attacking and killing her. A $3,100 reward pool is posted for information leading to the capture of the suspect whose body wounds were described as a throat wound with wire and a head gash. Family Rotary Meet in Tunnelton Bridges Civic Ties

In Tunnelton on Friday night the Grafton and Kingwood Rotary clubs hosted a joint gathering to foster better acquaintance and civic relations among the three towns. About 2000 attendees included Rotary members and guests. the event at the Tunnelton Methodist Episcopal Church featured a chicken dinner and a novelty song fest led by C. A. Keefer. Mayor Frank Hart gave the official welcome as William A. Beavers chaired the program committee and the Rural-Urban Relations committee managed proceedings.
