William Scott a prominent plasterer was jailed on a criminal assault charge in West Virginia after a warrant by Alma Ida Hunt's mother. A spectacular blaze struck a one story frame building owned by Major Fout near Elkins post office early today. Elkine West Virginia August 22 Special The West Virginia Annual Conference of the Methodist Protestant Church met in Evans First M P Church at 9:00 am presided by A W Morrison. Morning devotion led by Rev L Queen D D of Grafton. Committees announced and reports read. Afternoon session elected officers including Rev D S Boggs Fairmont as president and Rev Queen re elected secretary. Memorial service planned for Rev M L Smith. Evening session 7 30 with lectures by Rev M L Jennings D D and Rev T H Lewis D D on Bible and reason. Thursday to cover General Agents reports and board claims.
Porter Nutter, 24, a well known county youth from near Mareleville, was found dead in a police cell in Clarkeburg after an arrest for intoxication. The death, attributed to heart trouble induced by alcoholism, occurred around four o'clock in the morning.
The afternoon contest at Maclin grounds was cancelled because of wet conditions. The Elks and Hioraa plan two makeup games next week, one Tuesday and one Friday.
Master Junior Pauley son of Mr and Mrs CH Pauley slipped at home on Pearl Street and severely sprained his right ankle in a slight accident last evening.
Police court was orderly with no arrests made since the last session. Graton must be reforming as proceedings proceed in a quiet docket.
James Owens a Wheeling youth convicted of multiple robberies was taken to Prentytown reform school after escapes and a prior release for good behavior. The judge remanded him until he reaches age, noting his troubled conduct and parents unable to curb it.

He is described as a clean and clever young man though accused of disallowed conduct with a girl under legal age. The girl's mother asserts the girl was under consent age and alleges possible rape. Scott's friends posted a 2000 bond for his appearance at a hearing on August 1, a week from next Saturday.
Everett Collins a young man from Berryburg died after a short illness at his mother's home. His body was brought to Knotteville for burial with funeral arrangements expected to be held today.
A group of young people gathered for a picnic at the Park yesterday and enjoyed themselves despite a rain afternoon. Attendees included Nena and Lora Davis Lonella Roberts Leota Griffith Mosare Lawrence Since and Lakin Roberts, with good time reported by all.
Four Grafton citizens have laid out blue Vista, a new town lot addition on Bluemont street near the East End Gines plant. The plat, named Blue Vista in memory of the old Blue farm, fronts streets and alleys with a fine valley view and is near existing city lines and the East End works. Owners include Dr T F Lanham B F Bailey D R Darbin and James W Holt with S G Stather as engineer, and several lots already spoken for as sale plans advance.
Aug 22 reports from Pierson West Virginia describe ongoing evidence in the case of a man who died by his own act, with a body found a week later near G W Pierson of Nicholas County. A Sutton visitor asserts the death description matches what he knew of Pierson. Authorities from Nicholas County had not yet released any information. Also noted are weather and local ads about whistles and building supplies.
Reports from Nestorville claim a Barbour County oil well reached the surface with early production estimates around 25 barrels daily.
