Beckley Centennial Speaker Will Head Notables

Roundup reports Admiral Chester Nimitz will speak at Beckley Centennial events in Woodrow Wilson High School stadium on Friday at 2 p.m. The address theme is peace in our times. Klauenberg says operation here not affected yet

T J Klauenberg, Baltimore and Ohio superintendent at Grafton, told the Sentinel the rail road men strike has not interfered with B and O operations in this area. He added that the grievance committee has issued no strike notice locally and the action is centered mainly in the mid west. He does not expect to participate.

U S Citizen Arrested In Burma

An American, Dr Gordon Seagrave author of Burma Surgeon and Burma Surgeon Returns, has been arrested in Rangoon on suspicions of aiding Karen rebels seeking independence. He was born in Burma, educated at Johns Hopkins, and ran a mission hospital before his arrest following a Karen revolt beginning after Burma’s 1948 independence.
