The city council on the 12th prepared a preliminary budget with a proposed 50 cent levy for the coming year, while recognizing a 35 cent ordinary levy and potential extra taxes for bonded debt. Analysts flag high salaries, street work, and jetty contingencies as areas to trim, with proposed savings totaling about 9,000 to bring needs down to 25,453.81 and leave 11,000 for other uses, plus a possible remodeling of the electric light plant for 5,000.
