Buffalo Herd Located Near Slave River in Alberta
Edmonton August 20 Three distinct herds of wild buffalo were located west of the Slave river in northern Alberta by a party of cruisers led by government agent A J Bell from Fort Smith. Pierre Squirrel, guide for the expedition, says about 200 animals remain. The buffalo resemble the American bison but are quicker in the hills. They move in twos and threes in summer and herd in winter to guard against timber wolves. The government plans immediate steps to prevent hunting and protect the herds through increased wolf bounty controls.
