Forged Kansas Bonds Trigger Guarded Treasury Inquiry
National guardsmen took up sentry duty in the Kansas treasury as state and federal officials probed forgery of at least nine municipal bonds and more than 658000 in serious bonds. Governor Landon ordered guards and record checks of State Treasurer Tom Boyd, with possible legislative council action looming. A forged bond set valued at 329000 was said to be in Chicago with brokers. The original bonds are owned by the Kansas School Fund Commission. Ronald Finney faces a September 5 hearing on a 20000 forged bond charge. Night guard stationed at the treasurer's vault until further orders to protect bond transactions.
