46 New Polio Cases in Massachusetts Prompt Pool Plan

Forty six new polio cases were reported in Massachusetts today raising the year total to 602. Mayor John B. Hynes called a rapid meeting with state officials to discuss creating a pool of nurses, physiotherapists and hospital facilities to cope with the growing outbreak. Twelve new cases were in Boston, boosting the city total to 259 for the year and at least 19 people have died since January.

In Chicago at LaSalle Street Railroad Station a Minnesota woman asked the Travelers Aid Society for 50 cents for food and promised to repay. Last night she did repay the loan, ending a four year old promise.
