The Taylor County Board of Trade general membership meeting planned for this Thursday night at 7 30 p m was postponed. Executive Secretary Jack R Nuzum announced the rescheduled date is Thursday night April 14 at 7 30 p m with George Bi of the Upper Monongahela Valley association as featured speaker. Mr Buzzard could not make the trip this Thursday. The board will hear Mr Buzzard discuss new industries for Grafton. The UMWA has pledged full support to assist in securing new plants. Nuzum leaves tomorrow morning for Charleston to confer with State Road Commissioner Ray Cavendish about the roadway from Grafton dam to the boat docking area at Tygart Lake State Park and with Dr C E McClintic to speed up bath house construction at Tygart Lake.

The city seeks to nullify a 1941 joint development agreement with the Board covering three land tracts. The federal government condemned one tract for the center and later transferred ownership to the town for a fee.
The House appropriations committee endorsed a bumper peacetime 701 million dollar bill for the Agriculture Department for the next fiscal year starting July 1. It includes 257.0 million for soil conservation and 75.0 million for school lunches, with increases for soil conservation payments and forest service funding. State Trooper J. R. Hogg reports three neatly dressed youths held up two taverns between Huntington and West Hamlin last night, stealing about 450 dollars. A similar trio was described as holding up Boone county taverns Saturday night.
Thomas Swiger a 65 year old farmer on the old Corder farm along the Grafton Clarksburg road collapsed and died likely of a heart attack shortly before noon. His wife found him with his shovel across his chest near W Morrow’s residence where he worked. Swiger had been under a doctor’s care since a stroke in October and the body was examined by Dr W M Davis of Bridgeport as Deputy Sheriff Ray Matthews and Coroner Ona C Jeffreys investigated. Swiger lived on the farm for 29 years and was widely known in the area.

Chicago police quoted Harvey McDonald a 34 year old insurance salesman as saying he shot and killed Miss Joan Vestal 24 mother of two of his eight children during a struggle for a gun in her apartment after leaving a cocktail lounge. He said the shooting was accidental and stemmed from Vestal's jealousy over a waitress flirting with him.
Dr F J Holter head of graduate program in physical education at West Virginia University will speak at the annual athletic banquet in the Grafton Senior High School cafeteria at 6 15 p m Monday April 11 Rotary Kiwanis and Lions clubs sponsor the event with possible participation by St Augustine basketball team Coach Randall to introduce remaining high squad members while preparations continue.
