Morgantown April 2 A report by Dean of Women Edna Arnold shows 119 residents of WVU women s dormitories posted scholastic averages of 2.0 B or better last semester. Leaders were Cornelia Boreman Parkersburg junior and Joanne Linner Clarksburg freshman each with a 3.0 or straight A average.
The Associated Press reports Washington DC cherry blossoms remain beautiful and will likely be in bloom on Sunday despite rumors. No spoilage has been confirmed by credible sources.
Washington officials review March unemployment data showing a 54,000 drop in jobless totals and a 480,000 rise in employed persons from February. Unemployment compensation claims fell 6,000 for the week ending March 26, with officials cautioning the trend may be temporary and noting the March figure remains 727,000 higher than a year earlier.
Senate committee approved a bill granting President Truman broad powers to reorganize and streamline the federal government. Gerard Graham Dennis, a notorious society burglar, was recaptured after a three block chase by rookie patrolman Cornelius Mullane near the White Plains courthouse. Six shots were fired, none hit, as Dennis, 28, sought escape from law enforcement across the street, with police noting him as a wary figure after glimpsing vast wealth in furs and jewelry. Dennis is described by officials as glum after return to jail.
Boyd Modsitt Jr 21 of Simson was arrested last night on Simpson road for failing to show an operators license after his dump truck ran off the road into a field and damaged a fence. He was fined 10 dollars and costs in court.

Special circuit Judge B B Snyder is expected to rule today on a bid for a new trial for two Evarts police officers Isachar Combs and Lewis Deaton convicted of killing a restaurant operator. The motion argues that important evidence favorable to them has now been discovered.
Stassen described Soviet leaders as restrained only by their assessment of force and warned against underestimating the UN. He called communism a philosophy of materialism and force, yet said the UN could enable the realization of free men. He argued atomic war cannot wipe out civilization.
Fire Chief John Proctory and Earl Layman lead the 91st ticket sales committee promoting Barter Theatre’s Jehat as a fundraiser for the volunteer fire department. High school reports brisk sales yet many excellent seats remain, offering two hours of action and thunderous entertainment tonight at 8 PM at the Stag in Grafton.
The State Agriculture department announces two feeder calf sales this year with purebred beef bulls. Sales are set for April 9 in Moorefield and April 16 in Autumnoville. Last year the sales raised about 11 500 from 785 cattle. This year about 700 feeder cattle and 15 registered bulls will be graded and sold in lots from Hereford and Aberdeen Angus herds.
