Marked Ransom Money Leads To Arrest

Hauptmann, a Bronx resident, is arrested on murder and extortion charges in the Lindbergh kidnapping case. Police linked $18,500 in ransom cash to him after a ten dollar certificate was cashed at a New York service station. He claims payment came from a friend and denies knowledge of the crime. Public School Teachers Receive Warm Greeting at Reception

A large attendance braved bad weather at the annual Parent Teachers Association reception hosted by Mr. and Mrs. E. George. The program featured Mary Ellen Bottom, a vocal duet, a male quartet, and talks by Mrs. George Supt. McMullen and Rev. Christensen, followed by social time and lunch.

Palo Alto Hay Checks Total $260,586 This Week

Palo Alto county issued 2,849 hay payments totaling $260,586 received at Emmetsburg. Of that amount 180,842.20 covers corn payments and 184,844 covers hog benefits. A second hog payment in November matches the same amount and a third hog payment due in February is half that. Checks will be available in a few days and recipients will be notified by mail when and where to call.

Mission Opens at Catholic Church Sunday

A mission will open at the Catholic church Sunday morning, September 80, and run until Sunday evening, October 7. Father Charles of Des Moines, Passionist, will lead. Masses at 8 and 10 a.m. Sunday, mission begins at the ten o'clock mass, daily services through the close. Father Charles, known in Grachtinger, previously conducted two missions here. He is a native of Paulo Alto and the county’s first ordained priest. All are invited to attend any or all exercises during the mission week.
