A major spate of thefts hits Osher department store with $1,000 in silks and goods stolen. Suspects arrested then released. other robberies include cash from Henning sen and Paulsen homes, dress recovered, and ongoing shoplifting and barnyard thefts across Graettinger and nearby towns. The period ends with warnings of an emerging crime wave and possible funerals if unchecked.
In this era of belt tightening, the piece argues amusements are vital and promotes the Hawkeye Theatre in Graettinger presenting A Good For Nothing Husband on October Sth. The show promises high class comedy and a rare treat for the theatre going public.
The issue lists John Nelson auction four miles west and one mile north of Graettinger on Saturday September 29 offering cattle. October 1 sees McAllister auctioning town property and personal effects as he moves to Missouri. October 2 features I F Noble closing out 78 head of livestock and farm machinery, with Martin Stewart handling eight head of red stock. A free lunch is noted. Fleming’s lunch wagon will be present. October 6 Merklen to sell household goods in this city before moving to Macy Town.
Attention is called to the Palo Alto County Sunday School Association convention in Graettinger October 18 and 19 with Field Secretary Walter Hutton present at all sessions. Topics will be discussed by county school representatives and each school should send a full delegation. Entertainment will be provided under the Harvard plan. Mrs W Underwood and Mrs John Jackman were in Emmetburg Friday.
Father Matthew Mueller of the Passionist Order closed a highly successful parish mission in Graettinger last Sunday. The 600 cap church was packed for services led by the tireless missionary who spoke on marriage the Way of the Cross and faith in Perseverance. Several men joined the Holy Name society as papal blessing followed the final sermon and departure plans were announced for future missions in Illinois and Genoa.
The Graettinger Boys stationed at Camp Fremont near Palo Alto send a brief note home via the Times. They report guard duty for two weeks with 4th and 9th companies relieving them, describe warm days and clear weather, and note hikes to view local estates. They praise the Times and the poem Kahki by CG W Cummings.
Jake Morkley intends to relocate to Macy Towa in the near future to live near his daughter who resides there. On Saturday October 6 he will sell his household goods. The issue carries an advertisement for a game.
The Emmet County Farm Improvement Association launches a county wide seed corn drive with meetings in every school house on Tuesday October 2. Twenty speakers will hold multiple sessions to teach selection care and storage of seed corn. All residents are urged to attend and learn or teach seeds saving. John C. Eldredge County Agricultural Agent announces demonstrations held in the field and a busy schedule to help ensure a strong seed corn crop for spring.
The county wide Farm Bureau drive urges all farmers to learn of the fee through county papers card distributions and a series of meetings. Ralph Edwards helps the county agent with sessions at 5 p.m. across multiple towns from Sept 20 to Oct 8, with two meetings nightly at many locations.
Ames reader Henry J. Larsen reports from Camp Dodge and the Iowa Ammunition Train encampment. He names Russell George a cornet in the 1st Iowa Band and John Warburton a 1st Sergeant in the Quartermaster Dept. He notes orders to clear personal belongings by 7 o clock Monday and speculation on deployment to Deming New Mexico. He adds a Woodman Hall meeting at five o'clock Friday October 5 with Bert France in charge.
Miss Lucille Lambe of this city married Leonard J Germann of Elmore Minnesota at the Catholic church this morning at nine o'clock. Rev Father Kelly officiated. The couple left for Elmore for their future home. The bride, educated in local schools and Mt St Joseph academy, taught in nearby schools before joining a public school in Elmore. A bridal breakfast followed at the Lambe home. A shower honored the bride with about seventy attendees. The Times extends congratulations.
Robert Sherman presents a comedy at the Hawkeye theatre on October 5th titled A Good For Nothing Husband. The play flips the usual roles showing husbands as the target of critique while still offering strong dramatic situations and broad humor for both sexes to reflect on the good for nothing husbands in every town.

Conrad Weigmann mourns death of brother Rev Frederick Weigmann of Nebraska after an auto accident last Saturday. The German Lutheran minister, once professor at a Lutheran college in Nebraska, died two hours after injury. Grasttinger friends extend sympathy.
