Mission at Catholic church draws strong attendance

The Mission at the Catholic church opened Sunday led by Rev. Matthew Mueller, with Rev. Henry Mueller absent due to illness. Mass at 6:30 a.m. and 9:00 a.m., evening talks at 7:30 p.m., addressing Judgment and Marriage. Mission praised as successful, attracting many parishioners as it nears closing on Sunday morning. A long subscription list to the Times accompanies the report, listing numerous Graettinger and area residents, with a plea to notify the Times office if any names are omitted.

Emma Johnson Weds Theodore Christianson in Jackson

Emma Johnson daughter of Lars Johnson of Lost Island township and Theodore Christianson son of Mrs. August Christianson of Ruthven were married in Jackson Minnesota on Wednesday September 12. They reside on the groom’s rented Lost Island township farm. Both families are prominent. the bride and groom are praised as popular and generous. The Times offers heartfelt congratulations and wishes for a blissful married life.

The Ladies of the National Defense organization of Walnut township prepare comfort bags and housewives for each boy departing for army service. Loads Iron With Magnet by Doctor Ballheim in Duluth trip

Dr E B Ballheim of Mason City, visiting Grachtinger, observed a magnet crane unload 57 cars of scrap iron in two hours seven minutes. Four workers fed cars while a large magnet drew the iron from each car. The company pays $40 per ton for old scrap iron.

John Luke obituary funeral noted in Graettinger

John Luke, long time resident of Graettinger, died Saturday after a prolonged illness. Funeral services were held Tuesday at Immaculate Conception church with a large procession to St. Jacob's Cemetery. Born May 65, 1842 in Altenherse Germany, he was 75 years four months ten days old. Survived by wife, eight children including Mrs. Mary Meredith of Ft. Bennett SD and John Luke, fourteen grandchildren, three brothers, four sisters. He lived in the area since 1912 after early pioneer days in the pineries. The Times extends sympathy to relatives.

Celebrated Silver Wedding at Sevdy Home

The silver wedding anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. C. T. Sevdy marked by relatives and friends at their town home on September 10. Decor featured silver and white parlor and pink and white dining room with a two course dinner served by Mrs. Sevdy and Mrs. O. T. Hereim. Guests presented gifts to the honored couple and the event was described as delightful. The issue notes First National Bank’s strong condition with deposits over 400000 and recent cash transfers to the government for Liberty Bonds alongside June gains.
