Long Branch tour at James Dexter farm in Iowa club story

A visitor recounts a trip to the Dexter home near Plover, Iowa, detailing a Long Branch display with meals and saloon signs, a windmill, and homemade set pieces. Jim and Edna Dexter show around the yard and house, noting a fake fireplace, a sewing room, a west-wall remodel, and quirky features like a hangman’s noose, a frog statue, and a Knott’s Berry Farm prop collection. The project, including a keg and lighting, cost about 350 dollars, and locals recall the beard and parade memories.

Reform of Business Taxes Called Key to New Jobs

NAM urged Congress to enact capital formation incentives to spur business expansion and job creation. Russell W. Laxson of Honeywell cited a capital recovery allowance after 1976 potentially boosting real investment by nearly 100 billion dollars over five years and creating about 1 million new jobs. He backed permanent measures including a 50 000 surtax exemption rising to 100 000 by 1981, a permanent 10 percent investment credit, and a 25 percent corporate deduction for dividends. Tax relief was framed as justified amid high deficits.
