Pour on cattle grub control method described

The pour on method speeds treatment to five animals per minute through a restraining chute and works in cold weather. Cost is 30 to 50 cents per animal. Iowa trials 1956 to 1958 show treated cattle earning 1.25 to 6.42 dollars more per head. Do not treat lactating cows, calves under three months, or cattle within 28 days of slaughter. Treatments should occur after heel fly season ends, with timing varying by origin of cattle. Two products, Ruelene and Co-Ral, are outlined with preparation and application details.

County schools urged to merge into single district

Dr. Howard Knutson outlined a plan at Emmetsburg High School to unite Palo Alto County eight high school districts into one district centered near Emmetsburg. The proposal calls for a 700-student high school, repurposing Emmetsburg High as a community college, abandoning the West Grade building, and moving junior high grades to other towns until a central junior high is built. A 35 mill levy and a 2.5 mill sinking fund were proposed, with a 10-year standing levy for capital needs. The study remains a recommendation, pending further hearings.
