Labor Day Observed in Graettinger With Local Talent
Graettinger marked Labor Day with a large orderly crowd including Ruthven visitors. J J Myers of Carroll preached a concise labor sermon arguing Americans chase money over higher ideals. Beach boys, local clowns Marsh and Ecker, and Max Brenton of Havelock provided entertainment. A balloon ascent mishap injured a performer, hospitalizing him with a knee injury. Ruthven beat West Bend 4 to 2 after rain halted play. Rosary drew a packed Hawkeye audience and a lively dance followed. Races crowned winners: J C Sylvester, Ray Hood, K McEvoy. BP Solvers, Harold Quinn. Minnie Irland, Frances Hendricks. Wm Irland, Chas Myers.
