The gravel haulers finished gravelling the Times Highway with the last three miles done from material taken at Maktors corner. The hill will be cut to a level with the north side. Workers finish touches on a short strip this week as county plans trims at corners to improve sight lines for approaching traffic. The Times Highway is now among the finest roads in the area.
St Marys of Emmetsburg defeated Cedar Rapids 18 to 7 Sunday afternoon in a hard fought game. Emmetsburg, with a lighter squad, withstood Cedar Rapids heavy attack as late crowds traveled from Graettinger to attend the matchup.
Emmetsburg High School football beat Spirit Lake 13 to 0 on Friday. Emmetsburg dominated after a close first half as Spirit Lake fought hard. Estherville previously beat Spirit Lake 3 to 0. Emmetsburg and Estherville meet at Emmetsburg on November 7 with optimism for another win.
Ray Kennedy candidate for recorder of Emmet county gains support from local American Legion members as election day nears. Voters recall Kennedy’s World War record though he is currently confined to a hospital, raising questions about his wartime service and fitness for office.
Banks arrange terms for market day sale next Saturday. Cash under ten dollars to be paid in full. For amounts above ten dollars, six months time on approved notes at eight percent interest. Banks will take all approved notes. If you have property to sell, bring it to the sale next Saturday.

Next Tuesday voters will choose among Coolidge Davis and LaFollette for president amid a hot race in Iowa where LaFollette backers expect victory there while Coolidge and Dawes supporters anticipate triumph elsewhere. Senate contests show mixed loyalties with Steck swaying Dreckhart supporters and Breckenridge favored for state senator. County races remain quiet amid national interest.
The married men defeated the single men at the Dubin Alleys on Monday evening, finishing with 293 pins to spare. Captain Wetland led the single men in a strong effort, while the married team claimed the evening with the highest individual score and top average.
The Times is published a day late this week due to the typesetting machine overhauled by mechanics. W Humphrey from the Intertype Company arrived Wednesday and completed the job by Thursday noon, causing the delay.

Our reporter has learned of the marriage of Wim Starkey and Misa Sylvia Keresen, both of this city. They wed on August 6 and soon left for North Dakota. The groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Starkey. the bride is the daughter of Mrs. Theo Thoresen, a Gracttinger High School graduate who taught school the past year. The Times extends belated congratulations and wishes them a long, happy marriage.
Harry Malmin nearly tumbled eight feet after failing to notice a road cut at the corporation corner. The Catholic Cemetery Association holds a meeting next Saturday at 2 pm at Mrs. M. J. Reidy's home to elect officers and conduct business. all interested urged to attend.
A large Market Day sale is planned in Graattinger with live stock machinery and household goods listed for auction. Locals are urged to bring items to cash in, while buyers should attend for bargains at Graaftinger stores. Dr Bowman lectured at Hawkeye theatre last night delivering a reportedly splendid talk.
Bernard Smith held a fine auction sale last Thursday with strong turnout and satisfactory prices. A straw vote at the sale showed Coolidge leading the presidential race. The Burr Oak School hosts a basket social Friday evening, November 7, with Miss Frances Stewart as teacher and all invited. The M. E. Ladies Aid will serve supper at Woodman Hall that night starting at 7 p.m., all welcome.

Fred Taylor a Des Moines national biscuit salesman was robbed of 39 dollars by two young men as he neared Algona around 8 PM. They halted his car on a road near the Milwaukee depot, brandished a gun, searched his clothing, took money but left checks and his engraved wallet. He identified a large touring car as the getaway vehicle but not the plate number. Police were notified and the incident was linked to Linn county car No. 4.
The engineering extension service at Iowa State College offers loaned written materials on hundreds of topics including aeronautics aluminum automobiles cement drainage electricity engines foundations fuels wood preservation and more. Materials circulate free for three weeks with postage for return.
Farmers should shift from pasture to grain and hay for fall feeding with silage to maintain milk flow. Begin grain at seven pounds per pound of butterfat and avoid relying on stalk fields. Dairy cows in average production need careful feeding during the summer to winter transition. Mrs. Benjamin F. Kolp 68, of 506 Eleventh Street Rock Island, died at 10 am after a weeklong pneumonia illness. Born Feb 5 1861 in Rock Island she married Benjamin F. Kolp in 1879. Surviving eight children Charles Hooplaoe George B Hartley James Landing Kris Schuman Nora Carter Mina Masquell Harry Bessie and two sisters and two brothers. Funeral arrangements pending.
Mrs. Fillmore aged 79 of a southwest Emmet county farm died Monday. The remains were moved to Graettinger and shipped to Dows for funeral services and interment. She was regarded as a splendid lady and is survived by a son the Rev Fillmore of Cedar Rapids. Obituary notice incomplete.

Mourns death of J F Sanders of west of town aged 87 after a stroke last year and heart trouble. Funeral was held at McCallsburg Tuesday morning with Mr and Mrs Sanders and family attending. Survived by his wife and a number of children. Grasttinger friends extend sympathy.
Henry Gray of near Cylinder died at Palo Alto county hospital after a brief illness and paralysis. Survived by wife, three sons, and a daughter. Funeral Thursday at 10:30 in Foy undertaking parlors. burial at Corwith, Iowa. Lamonteburg Democrat
