Death Claims H A Ruby at 71 in Graettinger

H A Ruby 71, long time county resident, passed away Friday morning after a four year battle with paralysis. Services held at Lutheran church with Rev Mandsager officiating. He lived in Story, Webster, and Palo Alto counties before settling in Graettinger. Survived by eight children, eleven grandchildren, two sisters and a brother. Community remembers him as industrious, honest, and a loyal friend.

Terril High School defeated Graettinger 21 to 0 on Friday. Terril struck with a late first quarter interception and added two more scores, aided by strong runs from Edgar Grein and Kermit Reeves. Graettinger's Johnson left injured early, and Grey, Deerning, and Duhin were sidelined. Coach Arney plans a season finale at Laurens, with many fans expected to travel.

J. R. Stewart Dies at Reinbeck at 80

J R Stewart died at his Reinbeck home after a long life in the lumber trade. He was eighty and long connected to Graettinger area farming and local business. He was a brother of Mrs Bryan of the Groattinger region, a detail from a distant writer who did not know him personally.

Walter Houck of Bedford in Taylor county lost his larynx last summer at the Mayo clinic Rochester due to a throat growth. A medical device using a musical reed and artificial apparatus supplies air from the throat to the mouth to articulate speech, creating a voice-like sound.

Emmetsburg Junior College eleven defeated Sheldon Junior College 84 to 0 at Emmetsburg Saturday afternoon. Donald Jones of Graettinger played for Emmetsburg. A curtain raiser saw Spencer high school beat Emmetsburg high school 12 to 08.

Lewison Elected Commander of John Nelson Post

The John Nelson Post of the American Legion held its annual meeting at city hall Tuesday evening and elected officers for the coming year. New commander L. J. Lewison led a slate including A. H. Cameron as vice commander and Marl Lehigh as adjutant, with Ralph Masters treasurer and Franz Swanson sergeant at arms among others. An oyster supper followed, noted as the richest dish of its kind the Legion men had ever eaten.

Dutch Thompsen won the gentlemen's high score prize, Mrs Walter Middleton led the ladies with about 900 dollars, Thompsen's score reached 3200 and Middleton's around 900, C Norris near 3000, Palmer Frettem about 8000. The second session is set for next Monday with twelve or fifteen locals participating.

Dwyer Family Moves to Laurens and Local Shop Change

Ed Dwyer of Graettinger has bought a Laurens hamburger shop and moved there with his wife to oversee the business. Donald Shiven also bought the Graettinger shop and runs it. The Times expresses regret over the Dwyer departure and wishes success to all parties. Kenneth Noel Skattebo, eight months, son of Lloyd and Mrs. Skattebo of Wallingford, died after pneumonia following whooping cough. funeral held at Riverside Lutheran Church. The newspaper extends heartfelt sympathy to the bereaved parents.

Mrs Sena Christiansen Dies Suddenly of Heart Trouble

Mrs Sena Christiansen of Graate tinger died today at noon from heart failure after a brief illness. Her daughter Mrs Amis Dahl was with her earlier, and neighbor Mrs P B Knutsen found her deceased on a cot. Funeral plans were pending word from her son in North Dakota.

Three Cent Postage Reduction Hits Revenue and Jobs

Humboldt Republican reports two months of the three cent rate show a drop in first class mail revenue. House subcommittee may seek to revert to two cents, risking loss of delivery methods and backbone business. Red Cross meeting attendance urged for fund division

A. H. Henningson reports light turnout for the annual Red Cross meeting and issues a new call for Monday evening. If attendance remains poor, officers are advised to divide the funds on hand. Nearby, Wesley Man survived a self-inflicted gunshot wound and is expected to recover. A masquerade dance is planned for Woodman hall Monday night with Otto Larson’s orchestra providing music.
