A football game is set for Sunday afternoon on the local gridiron between East Side and West Sire teams. Players are largely former Gruetlinger High School graduates. Proceeds go to community athletic purposes. Kickoff is at 2 30 sharp.
Branagan of Emmetaburg strains for Congress as a Democratic nominee from the district. A Talo Alto county youth, Branagan emphasizes education and newspaper experience. His father, Editor W. T. Branagan, has long backed agriculture. Laurens reports Ed Dwyer family winning a new hamburger stand in Des Moines after moving from Laurens to Emmetsburg and later to Grac tuning.
Senator Hiram Johnson of California will address the middle west front in Chicago Friday night in his second campaign speech. President Hoover will also deliver an address the same night as he heads to California to cast his ballot on election day.
George Frick of Gracttinger was high man at the second round of the bridge tournament in Enmets burg Monday evening with a score over 2 500. Misa Brittle Martin of Emmetabure had high score for the Janes, near 4 800. Many news items in the Times were cut short this week and remaining items carried over due to late campaigning card printing.
Webster county treasurer delays tax sale by one month to extend a thirty day period for taxpayers to meet obligations. The postponement shifts deadlines and allows additional time to settle outstanding taxes.

A man named Geun Johnson was arrested in Noblon county Minnesota for robbery and was awaiting transport to the penitentiary for a three year term. He slugged the jailer at Worthington and escaped striking the deputy with a log of a chair during the incident.
Bert Montgomery, a Graetlinger native and long resident, seeks county sheriff on the Democratic ticket. He served in military duty, is described as a fine young man with exemplary habits, and urges Canettinger voters to give him wholehearted support on election day.
Petersens of Belmond are visiting friends and relatives during a brief stay. Mr Petersen travels with Martin Anderson and Homey Rolinson from their home city, while Mrs Petersen visits acquaintances. The group notes connections to local families and colleges in Ames and Hols mond.

Democratic radio programs will be broadcast to end of campaign with national and Columbia events. On Nov 4 Hon Franklin D Roosevelt appears on WHO WO and others at 8 PM. A mass meeting with National and Columbia is on WM, KSCJ, WHO and WOC at 8 PM. On Nov 7 another national and Columbia mass meeting is set for WMt KSCq WHO WOC at 10 PM.
The funeral for Mrs Lena Christiansen drew a large crowd at the local Lutheran and other churches. Surviving children include Martin Joseph Thorsness and Louie, with twenty four grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Born in Denmark in 1854, she married Nels Christiansen in 1874 and lived in Fowler Indiana before moving to Verdi Minnesota and finally Graetlinger area. Her death follows years of heart trouble and a life of devout Christian faith.
Jan Jenks, 54, partner in Mutton and Jenks publishers of the Bancroft Register, died of heart failure Thursday morning after a recent trip and a swift decline. He was a well known Humboldt County newspaper man, his death deeply mourned by family and friends. the notice also mentions a warm summer rain in today's weather.
Ye M I Ladies Aid society hosts an election day supper with fried chicken, potatoes, corn, rolls, jelly and coffee plus a bag sale and auction of useful articles. A Republican rally at Woodman Hall featured Theodore G. Johnson as a guest speaker and tea served afterward.
Funeral honors for Mags Christiansen, who died after a lengthy illness. The community recalls her devotion to family and neighbors, praising her Christian spirit and selfless ways. P BDuhn buys the Thomas and Mary Donlon residence site and plans a new bungalow in Graettinger. His son James will manage carpentry while Mr and Mrs Dubie and their son will occupy the finished home. The Donlon lot, among Graettinger’s choicest, replaces a recently razed fire ruin in town.
Graettinger friends announce Gordon Sandvig son of Mr and Mrs S S E Sandvig Graettinger has secured a position as buttermaker in the Templeton creamery. He is praised as a capable worker who has long served as an assistant at the Swea City creamery.
The Palo Alto county board of supervisors approved tax reductions for 1931 and 1932 totaling 24,148 and 60,005 respectively, with a further two year total of 164,208. The reductions will be appreciated by the taxpayers.
