Death of Frank Johnson in Graettinger area

Frank Johnson aged about 114 months died at his Graettinger home after a long illness of rheumatism angina and general frailty. He was born in Sweden July 15 1866 came to the United States 14 years ago and lived in Clarion Graettinger and Graettinger area. He is survived by his wife Margaret Erickson Johnson six children including Al Phillip Ralph Fox Milla Miller and others two brothers and many friends. Funeral services were held Monday at 1:30 at first church and St Pauls church with burial at Aniel cemetery South Wagner township referenced.

Cold Weather Reduces Attendance at Gardner Hog Auction

The sale of pure bred Right Type hogs at C. R. Gardner & Son near Graettinger drew a light crowd due to cold and wind. Hogs offered were not all sold, buyers present insufficient to meet the listing. Average price for sold hogs was 35 dollars, 13 dollars below two years ago. Gardner still has about a dozen choice hogs left for private sale.

Rev. Father Kelly of Graettinger had a narrow escape after his Nash coupe left the road on a grade near the Tost Island intersection. The car tipped into a ditch, the doors jammed, and acid from the battery leaked while a Boyden driver assisted. Kelly suffered a hip injury but escaped serious harm as a passerby cavalry aided him. Graettinger Adopts Electrolier Street Lighting Plan

A Graettinger city council meeting approved a new street lighting contract with Iowa Public Service Co. Eighteen electroliers will replace overhead lights, with six in the center business block, four in the east block, and four in the west block. They will operate from dusk to midnight, at which time overhead lights switch on. Hawkeye Theatre to State road lights drop from 300 to 100 watt. Other streets unchanged. Construction starts immediately and lights may be in use in about thirty days.

Results Of The Who's Who Contest At The Carnival

At the carnival last Friday night a Who's Who contest drew many guesses. Winners tied for first were Mrs Chris Jensen Mrs C A Jensen and Helen Reilly with 24 correct names. Several others had 23 correct. The official list named 26 pictures with multiple misidentifications noted. The event boosted the high school athletic fund, raising around 100 dollars to fund new outfits for girls basketball and wrestling, and cover deficits from football.
