Burned Man Suffers Serious Injuries In Accidental Explosion

Mr Prugsner used a torch to light gasoline and placed it near a denatured alcohol can. The explosion ignited the burning liquid, sending flames up his sleeves and causing severe burns on both arms and hands. He is unable to move or speak due to the injuries.

Rumor of liquor sales leads to large seizure in two towns

A report of booze sales prompted an anti-saloon League inquiry. Sheriff Wheatley seized nineteen barrels and 120 bottles each at Alvord and fifteen barrels at Lester, all stored in Rock Rapids. Analysis showed eight percent alcohol and about twice that of beer. Restaurant owner Strohmbein and Lester’s clerk faced court appearances.

A farmer near Algona identified as Hr. C. Adams reports a two year old heifer valued at 200 dollars missing and later found dead in woodland pasture. He suspects a hunter may have shot the animal by mistake and warns hunters to keep off his premises.

Boy Injured by Wagon Wheel Near Town

A 12 or 13 year old son of Mr. Hargreaves on the Wadworth place west of town suffered a peculiar accident last Sunday. While riding in a buggy the wheel hit an obstacle, the boy fell out, and the wheel passed over his face. The skin had almost no mark but every tooth on one side was knocked out.

Germania Bar Fight Ends in Jail Breaker Knife Attack

In Germania two weeks ago a drunken quarrel at a livery barn led to a mayor and marshal attacked during an arrest attempt. Ferdinand Koppen clashed with officials after being placed in a jail cage with Wallace. both men burned a mattress as fans fled. Koppen was later arraigned, bonded, and released. he denies cutting the mayor or setting the mattress.

Rindy and Wakefield wed in Austin Minnesota ceremony

Curtis Rindy announces the marriage of A C Rindy to Miss Edna G Wakefield of Dexter Minnesota held at the groom’s parents home in Austin on October 9. The couple plans a brief honeymoon trip then will reside in Austin with many friends awaiting them. Edna is described as a charming daughter of a wealthy farmer and a good match for the groom. In a separate item Dispatch reports E R Giffen of Juliet Tennessee bought half a section in Emmet county for 132.50 an acre, adding to H W Jensen’s recent land acquisitions totaling 880 acres.

Cure near for infantile paralysis claims at Rockefelier Institute

Doctors at the Rockefelier Institute for Medical Research say they are close to a cure for infantile paralysis. They have discovered the germ and can reproduce the disease in monkeys. Research follows successful vaccination patterns seen in smallpox, typhoid, and diphtheria.

Birney Found Not Guilty on Second Ballot in Hopkinton Murder Case

Dr E E Birney of Nora Springs was acquitted on the second ballot at Charles City Saturday night of murdering Myrtle Srig h of Hopkinton. The trial, described as the hardest, kept the jury out for about two weeks.

Young Whittemore Woman Shot By Mysterious Attacker

A masked man attempted to assault Miss Hattie Simpson one mile north of Whittemore while she was home alone. He fired four times. two shots hit her leg and arm, while two misfired. The assailant fled west as neighbors searched for him. Her condition is serious but not fatal. authorities seek the culprit.

Staging Collapse Injures Haas Crew at Whittemore Farm

Four workers from the A. W. Haas gang were injured when a staging platform for a corn crib construction platform at a Simpson farm near Whittemore collapsed from a height of about twenty feet. Injuries ranged from a broken arm to severe bruising. no warning was given and the cause remains unknown. Names include Rienhart Behnke, Lee Hoover, T. Keane, Lloyd Haas.

Sevold Sells Out Trade For Wisconsin Farm

Last week 11 Q Sevold traded his restaurant building and stock to J H Kelsey of Minneapolis for a 200 acre farm in Wisconsin located one mile from Gordon with good improvements. The Sevolds plan to move this fall and farm briefly. Gordon gains as the town loses. Kelsey, the new restaurateur, plans to dispose of the property later.

Clay County Boy Drowned After River Search

A six week old boy, son of Mr and Mrs Marlin Mengelson, disappeared Monday evening near Poole home south of the river. Neighbors alerted town, about 200 people joined the search, the river dragged, and near the railroad bridge the child's hand was seen rising from the water. Spencer Reporter.

Rhea Wood lies in critical condition at his parents home after a beating by Holly Hayworth. County officials and Deputy Sheriff Brown from Esthatville responded to the incident around one o'clock. Doctors report he was unconscious but expected to recover.
