He was found dazed, with a broken elbow, a deep scalp wound behind the ear, and other injuries. He was alone, managed to reach the door, called for help, and a physician was summoned.

Washington October 14 The senate ratified the increased beer tax of five cents a barrel as part of the war revenue bill without protest. It also approved taxes of five cents a barrel on rectified whiskey a thousand on bank capital and surplus and an amendment cutting taxes on casino life insurance. Some stamp tax provisions and other items were postponed for further consideration.
