The O R Gardner sale of 60 pure bred Poland China hogs is set for Tuesday October 21. Gardner offers 29 spring boars 1 good fall boar and 20 gifts. Sale near Graettinger with dinner at 11 30 and selling after noon. Auctioneers L W Larson and H E Keator. Clerk H B Hetzler First National Bank of Graettinger. Gardner renowned for pure bred hogs with blood lines including Diamond Mars Prohibition and others. His herd is a community asset promising higher returns for hog raisers and farmers in the area.
W Eckley of Terrill plans a sale in Graettinger on October 30 featuring sixty head of spring boars and gifts. The event is advertised in next week’s Times.
Bernard Smith of southeast of town bids a complete closing sale October 28. He lists 17 head of live stock including 20 milk cows and 26 other cattle, 117 head of pure bred Poland China hogs, two stacks of timothy hay, farm machinery, and a list of real estate. Raeves, Grodland & Keator serve as auctioneers with H B Hotzley as clerk. Nine months time terms apply.
A parade and patriotic celebration led by Ben F Reeves and George Frick marked Washington’s birthday plans in Graettinger. Ray Kennedy, World War veteran, seeks county recorder on the Independent ticket, supported by Emmet County American Legion after wartime sacrifices.
An auto crash near Spencer during the Clay county fair injured Mrs. Bormann severely. The Buick blocked the road forcing Mr Bormann into gravel. the car hit a railing and Mrs Bormann sustained deep facial cuts requiring stitches. The Buick driver fled while bystanders helped the family.
A Saturday evening Republican rally at Woodman hall drew a well attended audience. Congressman Pat Kelly of Michigan spoke on economics and warned against government ownership of basic industries. He urged caution on constitutional changes and praised President Coolidge and La Follette oppositions. Local candidates W. E. G. Saunders and W. J. Brekenridge spoke briefly and Saunders hoped to address Graettinger again before the election.
St Mary's Academy football over Trinity prep Sioux City 19 to 0 with 12 points in Q1 and 7 in Q4. Metsburg scored two touchdowns early as Trinity fought bravely until the final minutes. St Mary's boasts eight strong teams this year and a promising season ahead.
Fred Stolte of Farmers Supply Company fell from a box car Tuesday while unloading a hog waterer onto the company truck. He suffered chest and leg injuries, was unconscious briefly, and later found his shoulder dislocated. Section men nearby assisted his evacuation. He is reported recovering and getting along nicely after the incident.
Members of the Federated Women’s Clubs representing the Tenth district converge in Emmetaburg for a weeklong convention. Sessions began yesterday and run through Friday with attendees from Graettinger and other areas. Names noted include Mr J H Gammon, Mrs J Mitchel, Mrs Mid Reldy, Mrs P J Paul, Mrs Vincent Kelly, Mrs J Psen, Mrs A J Johnson, Mrs Sulilyan, Elizabeth Spies, and Gladys Johnson.
