Frank Phillips, 68, was killed Sunday evening when struck by a Merryman car four miles south of Mallard on Primary 17. He was changing a tire, thrown 50 feet, and died minutes later. Survived by wife and ten children. daughter married Ed O’Neill of this place.
Mrs C D Barrett residence in the northeast town will be sold at two oclock Saturday afternoon. The property includes a residence and an entire block of ground with substantial improvements and liberal terms offered. Keep auto license plates clean per state law mud and dust hamper legibility. Wikert Reeves report a successful Tuesday sale with over one hundred head of stock sold and high prices due to T B tested stock.
Music pupils of Miss Annie I W N Welsh gave a recital at the Ryan Lake Lutheran church Friday evening October 9. The program was lengthy and the large audience thoroughly enjoyed it. Miss Welsh is an exceptionally capable teacher with a sizable class in the Grati... territory northeast of Gractinger.
Jacob Brekke returned from Mankato Minnesota after visiting his son Dan Brekke and family. His daughter Mrs. Hans Matson of Lake Crystal joined him for a brief visit. Mr. Matson and Mr. and Mrs. Albert Strom of Lake Crystal plan to drive down for the weekend.
A miscellaneous shower was hosted by Mr. and Mrs. R. C. Mason at their home last evening to honor Mrs. Howard Mason, recently married at Spencer. Many young people attended and the guest of honor received many beautiful and useful gifts. The occasion was pleasant and memorable for attendees.
Pittsburg defeated Washington 9 to 7 in the last game of the World Series today. Johnson pitched for Washington with Al dredge Morrison Kremer and Oldham for the Pirates. Washington led four runs in the first inning but could not maintain the advantage. Halloween program set for Tuesday Oct 20 at Lost Island Center schoolhouse begins 8 pm. Admission 85 cents adults, children twelve and under half price. Includes program and lunch. Miss Gertrude Halverson teaches.
John Jensen writes from South Jacksonville on October 1, 1925 about a driving trip through Indiana Illinois Missouri Arkansas Mississippi Tennessee Alabama Georgia and Florida. He stops at Memphis St. Augustine and Daytona Beach visiting friends and noting landmarks roads and cotton crops along the way. The letter previews continued narration on page four.
Members of the M E congregation and choir surprised Rev. CG. J. Mekkelson and his family with a welcome home Sunday October 11 in Graettinger. Dr Bushnell district superintendent preached and a musical program preceded a basket dinner. The affair marked the pastor’s birthday, wedding anniversary, and fifth consecutive appointment. A substantial purse was presented amid about two hundred attendees.
The A P Andersen family of Tal Tow has moved to Humboldt and settled in a new residence at the place. He was a butter maker at the Fallow creamery for years and earned honors among top buttermakers nationally. He will oversee a fine new creamery at Humboldt as friends from Palo Alto extend best wishes.
Miss Lillian Swannon, a nutrition specialist, of Amen, opened her first training school for local leaders at Ringsted on Monday. Second year tuition will be taken up this year. Topics include infant feeding diet for pre school child diet for school child diet for special occasions meal planning for family and a review of that year’s work. Special focus was given to the diet of pregnant women.
Advice stresses nursing mothers and dental care with emphasis on the first permanent tooth. Baby specialists advocate cod liver oil to bolster defenses and ward off rickets. Public lessons encourage attendance at follow up meetings. Mrs J C Bosold chairs Jack Creek program.
Special mission services were held at the Danish Lutheran church in South Walnut township Friday Saturday and Sunday. Axel M Andersen was ordained on the last day and installed as pastor. He recently completed ministry studies and, after a summer wedding, spent his honeymoon in Denmark. The Times welcomes Rev and Mrs Andersen and wishes them success in their new parish.
Members of the local post and American Legion thank the community for its generosity to the Endowment Fund for America's war victims. The drive's success is praised, with special thanks to J. J. Sullivan of the Times for publicity work and to Vincent Kelly of Farmers & Merchants Bank and H. A. Eisonbast of First National Bank for serving as local fund treasurers.
The Iron Horse will appear at the Iowa Theatre in Emmetsburg on October 22 23 and 24. The epic film features a cast of 6000 and built two towns and three Indian tribes for authenticity. It is billed as a historic drama and a landmark motion picture.
Graettinger butter maker Henry Hansen won a banner prize at the national buttermaker contest in Oregon and took first prize at a second event in Algona. The polite craftsman is praised for his persistence and businesslike conduct while amassing gold, silver and bronze medals and ribbons.
The Caylor and Campbell troupe presents a three act Katzenjammer Kids farce with Little Hans and Fritz and a real stage production. Now touring for the fifteenth year this road show promises 200 laughs without a blush. Prices Adults 50c children 26c.
B H Horsewell conducts a new and old time dance at Woodman Hall this evening with music by the Vannote orchestra. An invitation is extended to all to attend.
E J Higgins of Emmetsburg died Tuesday evening after a long throat illness. Funeral from St Thomas church at 9 am Friday. A long time Emmetsburg business figure, he later ran a Graettinger drug store before retiring. He is survived by his wife. Graettinger friends extend sympathy.
C Molison and family of Spencer spent Sunday with Grachtinger relatives and friends. Mr Molison was recently promoted to western manager of the Mason City Oil and Grease Company. He will have charge of the Spencer field. The Times wishes him success in his new role.
In Kossuth County Iowa three counties will hold open pheasant shooting days on October 20 21 and 22. Dr Olene Jacobsen Burt Iowa notes Grettinger fans and local hunters plan to attend while word spreads that the Pirates and Senators played baseball in Washington and inquiry about Senator Cumming’s participation.
Hank Severoid of Story City played for the Washington Americans against Pittsburgh on Tuesday. In the eighth inning he hit a single as McNeeley ran for him and advanced to third.
