Fatal Auto Crash South of Mallard Claims Woman
A 60 year old Mallard resident Mya Anna Hill died after a Sunday evening crash on Primary 17 between Mallard and Havelock. A second vehicle in the chain collided with a trailer, injuring Hill who later died at Emmetsburg hospital. An unidentified driver fled the scene after striking Hill near Thomas Shaviland’s farm where the death car’s plate was observed.

Reeves and family depart for California soon. their daughter Geneva is in Los Angeles high school. The Reeves operated the hotel for eight years, moving from Guthrie Center, with prior ties to J A Spies and Dulin Brothers firms. They will be missed by Groottinger friends and business associates.

Notorious jailbreak from Emmetsburg jail shocks county
Frank Smith and James Welch, both Emmet county prisoners, escaped from the Emmetsburg jail on Wednesday afternoon between four and six. They used saws smuggled in by Minneapolis accomplices to cut two sets of bars and flee in a stolen Whittemore car. A prior escape attempt had prompted an armed guard and a cage on the second floor. One man was recaptured within minutes. Smith remained at large three days before being nabbed at Ocheyedan. They face charges of Robbing George Groves of Estherville.
