Death of Louis Hans in Great Bend Iowa native dies at home
Louis Hans longtime Graettinger resident dies suddenly at his Great Bend Kansas home after a brief illness. Born January 8, 1863 in Germany he moved to America as a child and to Graettinger Iowa before settling in Kansas in 1901. Survived by wife Ida Schuelke four sons Ford Irvin Herbert Harry Nellie Helen, daughter Mrs Hilda Wright and siblings. Funeral at First Methodist church Great Bend Friday at 2 30 pm. Funeral notes also include plans for local residents to Los Angeles for winter and a farm sale as families relocate to Canada next spring.

Blaze Threatens Graettinger Business District
A morning fire endangered Graettinger’s business block when flames from a bonfire at the rear of the First National bank spread to a wood and coal shed behind the Andrews drug store. Firefighters and chemical extinguishers contained the blaze before it reached the Windsor hotel, sparing the block. The drug store, owned by J. C. Wagner, suffered minimal damage thanks to rapid action and a high wind.
