Wartburg College admissions counselor Sherm Finer will be at Graettinger High School on Thursday November 11 at 11 45 a m to meet prospective students. Students should contact the guidance office to schedule a visit. Wartburg College is a private four year liberal arts school in Waverly Iowa with 1200 plus students, 71 full time faculty.
Deb Kennedy notes in Des Moines Register that Wallingford revived classic Halloween charm through a community Halloween Party and haunted house. Families enjoyed creative costumes, a best costume contest, games, refreshments, and a haunted house in an old Main Street building. The event, run by the Wallingford Lutheran League, offered safe, inexpensive fun and praised town efforts to recapture the nostalgia of “magic Halloweens.”

The Palo Alto County American Legion Auxiliary met at the Graettinger Legion Hall on Monday October 25, 1976 at 8 00 pm. Bea Graettinger opened with two vocal numbers by Donna Westergard with Allen Zevenbergen on the electric organ. Flower Drum Song was announced for November 12 and 13. The meeting included prayers, pledge to the flag, and a group reading of the preamble. Veronica Higgen of West Bend became county president and membership and county dues were discussed. Door prize went to Pearl Armstrong of Emmetsburg. next meeting set for Mallard on November 22.
The Graettinger board met October 11 1976 with Heidecker and Jones present Forey absent. Minutes from September 13 were read and approved. Bills were approved for payment including Palo Alto Co Treasurer 92.99 U S Post Office 15.04 IRS 259.00 IPERS 643.50 IWD 912.60 Iowa sales tax 325.61 Reclamation 2614.41 and payments to electrical and hardware suppliers totaling several hundred dollars. Minutes from September and October 1976 council sessions show a public hearing on the sewer facilities plan with no objections, approval of a six and eight inch mains for Schany's Addition, annexation referral to Planning and Zoning, street right of way purchase offer, and multiple resolutions including garbage disposal contracts and bids. Local officials: Mayor Alan Graettinger, City Clerk Dan Elwood, council members Jensen Hansen Nissen Bonstead Brobst, and planner Tom Wall of DeWild Grant Beckert.
Feed conversion rates for beef appear very high versus hogs and broilers yet about half of a fed steer's slaughter weight is reached before concentrate feeding. Using a common feed unit, concentrates and forages fed to beef cattle are compared on a deed equivalent basis.
