Graettinger School Patron Day Draws 600 Patrons

Graettinger held a gala School Patron Day with over 600 attendees at the schoolhouse. A full afternoon program featured grades 3 and 4 singing demonstrations, a play by 6th and 7th graders, Maypole dances, and a first track meet on the grounds, producing keen student competition and many prize winners across grades.

A severe blizzard devastates Graettinger and nearby towns, causing coal shortages, school closures, and widespread fuel distress. Three deaths and numerous illnesses from exposure are reported as fuel supplies run low and communication lines fail. Peter Miller Loses House in Farm Fire at Nicallet Minnesota

A house on Peter Miller's farm near Nicallet burned Friday morning. Three children were in bed on the second floor when the fire began. Miller carried the youngsters through flames, he was slightly burned, stairway burned through and he fell with the children. No goods saved, insurance $300, rebuilding cost about $3,000. The Millers went to investigate the loss Saturday.

Clyde Brown Injured After Road Grader Accident

Clyde Brown son of Mr and Mrs Frank Brown of the northeast part of town was run over by a road grader near his home last week. He suffered an injured lip and a head wound requiring ten stitches but is getting along nicely and able to be up and around. Mrs Andrews returned to Frankfort South Dakota after visiting R W Andrews of this place.

Eleven Emmet County boys head to Camp Dodge May 25

Eleven Emmet County youths depart for Camp Dodge on May 25 to begin training. They will assemble in Estherville Friday afternoon and depart Saturday morning via the M and St. L railroad. A reception and banquet are planned Friday evening. Two early registrants are missing along with two alternates, necessitating substitutions. The group brings the total sent to 258 across Uncle Sam’s units. The list includes James Starkey, Grover. Gerhard Thompson, Wallingford. Lewis Valen, Estherville. Donnevano Cencha, Estherville.
