Ration For Work Horses Outlined By Expert At Iowa State
A. Caine of Iowa State College recommends summer rations for work horses including 50 percent contents 45 percent corn and 16 percent bran with mixed clover and timothy hay for roughage. If bran costs rise or is unwanted, bran can be decreased and grains increased to boost power per unit of feed. The approach aims at highest return of power per feed unit, and several livestock specialists will study the plan with more counties likely to adopt the demonstration. A recent Ohio survey finds livestock farming more profitable than grain farming. Sugar cane syrup is now produced so it will not crystallize or sugar during cooking or storage in barrels.
