Tile Factory Plan Sets 20000 Dollar Improvements

Extensive improvements costing over 20000 dollars will be made at the Graettinger Tile Works plant this summer. The project includes a cableway excavator sand washer rock crusher and new industrial track to move 20 car loads daily. A 30 hp motor and river pumping system will supply water for the washing operations. The total cost is estimated at 20000 dollars with final figures pending.

Two Marriages In Past Week Reported In Local News

Two couples were united in marriage this past week in this city. Arthur Henningsen and Mabel Osher tied the knot at the bride’s home with Rev. A. R. Cuthbert officiating. Herman Herke and Ruby Richardson also wed, with ceremonies attended by family and friends. The Osher home was festively decorated and a brief tray lunch followed. The newlyweds, both well regarded, plan their honeymoon before settling in their respective towns. Guests included H. M. Osher of Des Moines and Mrs. Englund of Muscatine among others.

Herke Richardson nuptials in Emmetaburg May 5 1920

Mr Herman Herke and Miss Ruby Richardson were married at the Congregational parsonage in Emmetaburg with Rev J E Brereton officiating. Witnesses were Mr and Mrs Ornam Fredricks of Emmetsburg, sister of the bride. They will settle on the groom’s father’s farm east of Graettinger.

Funeral of Kent Oakes Oakes Held After Illness

Kent Oakes born November 9, 1898 died May 9, 1920 after a weeklong illness. The funeral was held Sunday at 2 pm at the home with Rev. Cunningham and Ringsted choir, interment in High Lake cemetery. Mrs Hammil Dies After Surgical Operation

Mrs Mary Price Hammil, wife of John Hammil, died April 27 at Samaritan hospital Des Moines from effects of surgery. She was conscious until moments before death, had married about two years ago, and was remembered in Graettinger as the former Miss Mary Price. Her friends in Graettinger learn with sorrow of her passing.

Splendid Concert by Waldorf College Choir at Graettinger

A Waldorf college choir from Forest City of thirty members gave a Saturday night concert in Graettinger. They planned for Lutheran church but moved to the High School assembly. The program featured choral hymns and readings by Miss Hansen. Receipts totaled 65 dollars, all donated by the choir for missionary work.

New School Teachers Hired for Coming Year

The school board hired most new teachers for the coming year with the exception of a superintendent and one high school instructor. G. W. Gatke, teaching at Des Mares this year, is considered for superintendent. High school teachers elected include Misses Irma Farquhar Eva Schillig and Bernice Lundien. Grade teachers secured are Misses Gladya Vedder Florence Wells Catherine McEvoy Fern Clark Cora Christopher and Clara Larsen. Vedder will teach eighth grade Wells and McEvoy fifth through seventh grades Christopher and Larsen second through fourth grades Clark primary.

Dan Resh Narrow Escape After Disc Accident

Dan Resh narrowly escaped serious injury when his team ran over him with a disc while discing a field near his home. A horse incident caused the rigging to flare, leaving him with two broken ribs, facial and leg scrapes, and a kidney bruise. a heavy coat saved him from worse harm.

Gravel Pit Near Graettinger To Open For 1920 Season

The Rock Island company will open a gravel pit north of Graettinger for the 1920 season. In use for twenty years, the pit recently acquired additional land underlaid with gravel. A steam shovel from Silvis, Illinois, is due shortly. The operation will run at full capacity and employ about twenty men.
