Narensen urges Graettinger citizens to join a week long cleanup May 15 to 20. The effort targets rubbish removal, lawn care, sweeping, washing, limewashing, roof and gutter upkeep, and safe water storage to reduce disease germs and pests. Manure needs proper disposal with kerosene treated areas and fly control measures.
A rural report notes Farmers Supply Co. shipped a big Red truck load of corn planters and a manure spreader to buyers including Carl Holte and others. The piece highlights early corn planting targets by May 15 and describes dry weather hurting crops, pastures, and gardens across the region.
Mrs. Alice Briggs of Zimmerman Minnesota, sister of J T Michaels of Gruétlinger, died Sunday after a long illness from cancer at about 66. She is survived by her brothers J T Michaels and George, plus sisters Lucy Michaels and Etta Lening. Amos Bulen of Sibley has purchased the pool hall in Estherville, plans changes, and will run an up to date establishment.

Gruettinger community hosts home talent night on Wednesday May 17 with the Senor class presenting The Hoodoo at the Hawkeye Theatre. Cast includes Deighton Kary Ula Rathermel Billy Jackson Joseph Gabiel and others in a multi act school play set partly in Mrs Perrington Shine's country home and a library. A severe storm later damaged structures in Emmet county near Dolliver with reports of widespread damage and property impact.
Emmetsburg St Marys toppled Graettinger High 12 to 7 on a Tuesday afternoon in a game marked by pitching by McNally for Emmetsburg and Erickson for Graettinger. Nine Emmetsburg runs by the fifth inning, then Erickson’s steadier pitching limited the visitors, with final score 12 to 7. The teams plan a rematch at Lost Island ball park in two weeks as Graettinger school events proceed.
Mrs Sarah Foster of Mapleton Town died Wednesday of last week at age 91. Funeral services were conducted in Ames on Friday with son W C Foster and Eugene and Kathryn in attendance. Foster was a pioneer woman of the state. Mrs Maddigan broke her wrist Tuesday morning after a fall at her East Side home. doctors say recovery will be lengthy. May 17 reception planned for Mother’s Day observance by the PD Association with a program.

A very successful track meet was held at RuthvenSpuinway with county schools represented and strong turnout. Ruthven hosted well entertaining visitors while Graettinger fared poorly due to lacking training and a track program. Hall and Nevsger of Emmetsburg led the afternoon events and the county oratorical contest occurred the night before with Stanley Gardner of Gradringer among entrants.
A lightning strike set the McNamara farm barn ablaze ten miles east of Graettinger at eight Saturday morning. Barn worth 2500 with 800 insurance. owner Mr McNamara lost two harness sets and small items, 12 horses saved. Nearby fire minimal. no other losses reported. Junior-Senior Banquet to be held at Weadman hall Friday with John Reidy as toastmaster and a planned fine program and menu.
Community members report satisfaction with updated banking hours. Banks close from noon to six in the evening and reopen after a midday cash vaulting, with no observed inconvenience to patrons.
