The Petty of Graettinger will issue an injunction Friday May 9 1919 to stop Northern Iowa Gas and Electric from removing meters of customers who refuse a 15 percent rate increase. The notice warns bill payment by May 10 or meters will be removed and service disconnected.
Districts No 6 and 6 held a basket social at Center school in Jack Creek township on April 18. Proceeds totaled 52.15 and were deposited in First Trust & Savings Bank of Estherville for Junior Red Cross work. Teachers involved were Misses Zatha and Bertha Madden.
The Times notes it was the first Palo Alto county paper to gently announce east west paved highways in the county and to locate Grachtinger on the Emmetzburg Esstherville speedway. Readers urged to tell neighbors to subscribe as the list grows weekly.
Grover Yaberg and Lewis Larsen of the 1st Division arrived in Graettinger after serving in the Argonne drive. Grover was gassed and recovered before armistice. Larsen wounded and gassed. Frank Christiansen of the 91st also served. The Times notes the German peace terms as severe and likely to unsettle the German populace.
The Ruthven Free Press reports Lakeside Park sees many renovations with the ball grounds fenced, more land for auto storage, house movers relocating buildings, and complete changes by June 1. Electric poles are in place and power to arrive in two weeks. May dances will be held Fridays with three female hosts managing floors, amid expectations of a large crowd.
Market Day sale moved from May 17 to May 24 due to weather and expected light attendance. Farmers urged to list property now. Also notes Mass at Catholic Church moves to 8 am next Sunday and 9 am thereafter to accommodate Father Kelly’s trip to Emmetsburg for a 10 o'clock service.
There will be a basket social and dance at the school house in Walnut township District No 6 one and a half miles north of Osgood Friday evening May 9. Program features dancing and other amusements with all invited. Alice White, Teacher.
Elmer Myhre, brother of Martin Myhre, has been elected vice-president of the Warmers State bank in Ankeny Iowa. He moved his family there last week and will oversee bank affairs as his new post.
The Last Day of the Deestreck Skule will be presented as a home talent attraction at the Hawkeye theatre in Graettinger Friday evening May 9 under the auspices of the M. I. Ladies Aid society. No tickets reserved. come early for best seats. Admission is 15 and 35 cents with no war tax.
A list of events and top contenders for the Palo Alto County Track Meet held in Emmetsburg Iowa on May 10 1919 at 2 PM. Events include 100 yard dash 220 yard dash 440 yard dash 880 yard run mile run 120 yard hurdles 220 yard hurdles polo vault broad jump shot put high jump discus and relay entries with multiple athletes named for each. Some relay events remain unselected. Funeral note for Mrs Janet K Amdal of Wallingford who died after influenza and pneumonia. Funeral at Presbyterian church Estherville Enterprise reports.
Oscar Leonard Skattebo, youngest son of Mr and Mrs KK Skattebo, died Monday afternoon at his parents home in Wallingford after a severe illness followed by pneumonia. Born April 9 1905 in the county, he was loved by his schoolmates and community. Funeral services will be from the home and Wallingford church with Rev T Hangon officiating, burial in Riverside Cemetery. Class members were to act as pallbearers. Haterville Enterprise.
