Last Friday residents gathered at the Hawkeye theatre to hear attorney J W Movsen of Estherville discuss the light issue. The company threatens to remove meters from nonpaying customers amid a 15 percent rate hike contested by the council. Many expect meters to be removed after May first. coal oil lamps will fill gaps temporarily. The council previously declined the increase, and a 48 hour ultimatum prompted community debate. Herbert Weisbrod, drafted February 26 1918, died in France April 8 from wounds, a Fenton boy’s sacrifice reported by the Fenton Reporter.

Secretarial Candidate Sought for Oskaloosa High School
Yesterday morning Secretary John O. Jertson received the application for superintendent of the High School signed by Rall Grisby who has charge of the track work at Oskaloosa this year. Mr Grisby is a graduate of Cornell college and finished his studies there last Christmas before going to Oskaloosa to fill a vacancy.

At Spirit Lake Tuesday auctioneer Grodland joined Grachtinger gentlemen in late night poker. Grodland held three kings and two tens against three bullets and a pair of ladies. A speeding Ford, likely southbound, chased him as he dashed to catch the Rock Island train, but he realized his error and returned, with the Times cautioning about unverifiable tales as the sleepy party alighted this morning.

Graettinger Concert Band took over Thursday evening festivities with a street concert at the Hawkeye followed by a baskets auction led by Grodland. Sham basket bids boosted receipts to 187.65 dollars after a 225 dollar gross, funds aiding band expenses as residents praised the first class group.

Wreck Train No 928 Derails Near Spirit Lake West Okoboji
Part of Train No 928 bound west derailed last Sunday near Spirit Lake two miles west, with thirteen cars leaving the track. Five toppled in the ditch due to a soft road bed, engineers Ketchan and conductor McCutcheon in charge. No injuries reported though damage was extensive, wrecking crews clearing the line Monday to prevent delay.

Flying Circus tour by Milford brothers planned
