Bad Fire Destroys Mrs J P Mahan Home South of Graettinger

A Thursday night fire consumed the J P Mahan residence south of Graettinger while the family slept. Mrs Mahan rescued with help from neighbors as furniture was moved out. Police estimate the kitchen chimney caused the blaze. insurance listed includes 500 on the house and 200 on furniture. The community offers sympathy to the family. Spirit Lake senator married in New York ceremony

A. B. Funk of Spirit Lake, former state senator and state board of education member, wed last Sunday in New York to Miss Mattie Sawyer formerly of Spirit Lake who has worked in settlement work. Funk was a Republican candidate against Senator Kenyon.

Ringsted Cement Factory Rebuilding Underway

Waterloo Papers Consolidate Into Evening Courier

Waterloo Daily Reporter once run by Matt Parrott and his sons has been purchased by the Waterloo Evening Courier. The Reporter’s last issue appeared last Friday and consolidation by the W. H. Hartman Company follows for business reasons. Printing will move to the Courier office while the Parrotts stay in job department work. Marriage of Henry Grodland and Jennie Nefrets at Emmetsburg

The couple, both from Illinois, wed Tuesday at the M E parsonage in Emmetsburg at high noon. Henry Grodland is the brother of local auctioneer M O Grodland. They will reside on the groom’s mother’s farm in High Lake township. The Times extends congratulations and welcomes the newlyweds.

Denmark Creamery Fire Prompts Move Debate

A fire destroyed part of the old Denmark creamery east of Ringsted on March 5. The blaze, starting in the roof above the boiler room, left a ten foot square hole. Ole Knudtson Dead in Lost Island Community

The Graettinger resident Ole Knudtson died on Thursday morning March 19 after a period of illness. Services were held at his home and at Lost Island church with Revered Sande officiating. He was born October 1, 1865 in Dane County Wisconsin and lived on a Lost Island farm before moving to town. He leaves wife Christina Asleson and siblings John, Peter, and a sister. Numerous out of town mourners attended the funeral.
