Fat cattle car burns near George Illinois Central derailment

Shooting at Terris Theatre Ends With Wounding
A member of the Warner Comedy Company shot another troupe member after a Panama Theatre performance in Terris. The bullet injured the right shoulder. the wounded man was treated by Dr. Schooley. A warrant led Sheriff Bradfield to Spirit Lake, where the shooter was released after paying all costs and left the company.

Market Day Sale Draws Crowd Despite Poor Weather
A Saturday market day sale drew a large town crowd despite unfavorable weather. Merchants offered special bargains across departments to attract farmers and families. Death of a Pioneer James O Connor
James O Connor of Walnut township died Saturday at St Anthony s Home Dubuque after a stroke. Born March 14 1835 in Ireland he immigrated to the US in 1861 and married Mary Clacy in 1867. He leaves eight children and two brothers and one sister. Funeral at the Catholic church in Walnut followed by burial beside his wife.

MacBride Chosen Acting President of State University of Iowa
Professor T H MacBride, head of botany and oldest faculty member, was chosen acting president of the State University of Iowa by the state board of education last evening. He will assume office April 1 after the board unanimously acted at 5:30. The board also accepted President Bowman’s resignation and explained its action in Cedar Falls, where Schoettle was removed as head of the music department, stating it followed Bowman’s recommendations.
